Class Alert |
Class Alert is a special type of alarm clock for college and university students and professors. Users enter the specifics about their classes and Class Alert then monitors those classes and alerts the user when the class time approaches. Class Alert installs with default settings, but these settings can be adjusted by the user. Some specifics about Class Alert can be found below. The User's Guide should be consulted for complete details and examples.
- Alert Methods: Class Alert performs alerts by playing a sound and/or displaying a popup window. The popup window displays the class name and how much time remains until the class begins. This popup window is completely user friendly. In other words, it does not "steal" the focus away from whatever the user happens to be working on. Both alert methods (play a sound and display a popup window) are enabled by default when the program is installed for the first time. These selections can be adjusted in the Class Alert Settings area.
- Times to Alert: Class Alert will perform alerts during the times the user selects. The program offers alerts at the following times prior to the start of a particular class: 60 minutes, 45 minutes, 30 minutes, 15 minutes, 10 minutes, 7 minutes, 5 minutes, 4 minutes, 3 minutes, 2 minutes, 1 minute, and at class time. In other words, if a particular class starts at 10 a.m. and the alert time "15 Minutes Before Class" has been selected, then Class Alert will perform an alert at 9:45 a.m. All times with the exception of "60 Minutes Before Class", "45 Minutes Before Class", and "30 Minutes Before Class" are enabled by default when the program is installed for the first time. Users can adjust this in the Class Alert Settings area.
- Launch Class Alert on Startup: Class Alert is capable of starting when the user's computer starts up. This feature cannot be turned on and off within Class Alert, but instead is handled (installed and uninstalled) by the setup program. This feature will be installed if “Complete Setup” is selected. It will also be installed if “Launch Class Alert on Startup” is selected in the “Custom Setup” process. Class Alert will not start when Windows starts if “Minimal Setup” is selected or “Launch Class Alert on Startup” is not selected for installation in the “Custom Setup” process. This feature can be changed after installation by going into the Add/Remove Programs section of the Windows Control Panel and selecting "Change" to re-run the setup program.
- User's Guide: A user's guide is included that describes how Class Alert works. The user's guide comes in both web (HTML) and .pdf formats. The web version is linked to within the program under the "Help" menu, so users have easy access to it. An Internet connection is not required either, since the web version is located within Class Alert's directory. The .pdf format requires a .pdf reader such as the free Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to view it.
- Microsoft .NET Framework Notice: Class Alert uses Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. If the .NET Framework is not installed, then setup will automatically download it and install it for you. Do note though that the download size exceeds 16 MB (compressed), which could take some time on slower Internet connections.
